US went down to have a cup of tea and a friendly chat with the boys at Eat The Beat.
How Long has Eat The Beat Established?
We've been going since October 1996
What can people expect when they walk into Eat The Beat?
Not to be intimidated by the usual record shop bollocks. We've all been there and try to be as helpful and friendly as we can
What types of music do you specialise in?
Deep UK & US House, Garage, jungle, Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Funk and Reggae.

What Genre of music is most popular at the moment?
Jungle is really popular at the moment
What do you think of the music scene in Bristol at present?
There is a real opportunity for a lot of new stuff to happen. Its been a long time since the Bristol 'trip hop' scene and there's the scope for a lot of good new things to come through.
What do you think of the state of dance music? Do you have any predictions for the way it might go?
Dance music in the past few years seems to have been built upon trends within genres creating different styles e.g deep dubby house within house or breakbeats within garage to name a few. It's really hard to see where anything new and fresh will come from but I hope I am surprised.

What artists/producers really stand out at the moment?
Future Cut- Best live drum & bass project for ages. Freakeasy- Live sounding hip hop with heavy funk influences (soon to be released on Eat the Beats own Beat(en)communications label). Mark Pritchard has had some really strong releases lately. 4 Hero. There's also been quite a lot of local stuff which seems to stand out such as Little People.
Do you think 2001 has been a good year for music so far?
There's been a handful of outstanding records but no real strong stories in dance music. 2000 seemed to be a better year e.g The West Coast House scene released some really fresh stuff. 2001 seems like it has just built upon things which happened last year.
